Hadn’t heard this, but I described my childhood as the eldest child —“the island of mediation between my parents.” I was being triangulated! If a had a dollar for every time my mom said that first sentence, I would be rich!

I had never heard of triangulation before, and this is quite a fascinating article. It makes a great deal of sense in terms of my own family. I can now see how the unspoken problems have caused distance in some of the relationships. Your reference to "Ordinary People" is a perfect example.
